About our Guest Speaker

January 20, 2016

Alan Hurford has been the Town Clerk for Bridgwater for the past 12 years, but is possibly one of the least conventional local council officers you’re likely to find.

Born in Bridgwater’s Mary Stanley Hospital and raised in Spaxton, ‘Hurf’ is a product of Spaxton VC School and Dr. Morgans, and has lived in Bridgwater for the past 42 years and has spent most of his working life in local government. He has held senior posts and coped with three major re-structures, as well as political persuasions of various colours.

Alan has many interests, predominantly of the sporting variety, although his match involvement these days is limited to watching from the sidelines. He has been an active member of Bridgwater Town Football Club for over 40 years, and is a director of the Somerset FA.

Alan pinpoints the key to his life as taking a sense of humour with him wherever he goes, and refusing to let anything worry him. He is also renowned for knowing at least one person in any room he cares to walk into.

Those of you who know Hurf will realise that his presentation at the Sedgemoor Business Awards is likely to be both colourful and entertaining!
